~ How to use your Mala Beads in a meditation ~
Hold your beads with one hand and let them loosely drape over your fingers so you are able to move them freely. The beads are most often in your right hand and moved along with your thumb with your index or third finger. Using your index versus the third finger can vary based on belief systems. Use what feels best for you.
You can begin with connecting to your breath and can use a mantra if that is part of your practice. With each bead, complete one breath cycle with your mantra, then move on to the next bead by advancing the beads toward you with your thumb.
Once you complete all 108 beads, complete with the guru bead and give a moment of gratitude for your practice.
If you want to complete another round, go back in the opposite direction completing the same technique until returning to the guru bead.
Remember, there is no right or wrong in your practice. It is yours to connect with and be present. Make it yours.
Place two fingers around one of the beads next to the main bead, called the guru bead.
